agwellAB to host its first 'In The Know' Facilitator Training to Support local Farming Communities

As part of our new Agricultural Well-Being in Alberta (agwellAB) program in the province, we’ve partnered with the Canadian Centre for Ag Wellbeing (CCAW) to offer free facilitator training for mental health professionals in the province. You can become a certified ‘In the Know’ Facilitator, and help bring mental health education and awareness to local farming communities across Alberta

Our first ITK Facilitator Training day is scheduled on Tuesday March 18 2025.

Time: 3.5 hours (10am-2pm, with breaks)

Cost: Free

Format: virtual

We will be hosting additional training sessions, so contact us if you would like to be put on a waitlist. Sessions can be help virtually or in-person.

About ITK

In the Know (ITK) is a 4-hour award-winning workshop aimed at improving mental health literacy among farmers, agricultural professionals, and rural community leaders. Participants learn to recognize signs of mental health struggles, initiate supportive conversations, and address stigma within their communities.

About the Facilitator Training

The training will equip you to deliver ITK workshops virtually or in-person within your province to bring education and awareness to mental health in farming. We will provide you with a series of resources including a training manual, professional slide deck, resource handouts, and a national support network. We can add your profile to the agwellAB website to promote you so to help people in your area find you.

Note - this training will not teach you the basics of mental health issues are like anxiety or depression but focus on how to relate these concepts to a farming audience with examples and real-life stories.

Facilitator Requirements

To maintain integrity of the workshop, facilitators are required to meet a series of requirements including being a mental health professional. Agricultural experience or background is not explicitly necessary, but it is highly beneficial. Some additional training may be required if you do not have farming background or experience. The Canadian Centre for Agricultural Wellbeing (CCAW) can provide this training at no cost.

Here’s what you’ll learn:

  • How to relate key mental health issues to farmers and the ag industry

  • Logistics and delivery of the workshop

  • Compensation for delivery (that is up to you)

  • Review of key delivery pieces for workshops

  • Opportunity to connect with other facilitators
